Police in the Central Region have commenced investigations into the death of a final-year Mfantsipim Senior High School student whose body was found hanging in an uncompleted building at North OLA in Cape Coast.

The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Arthur, was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition on Tuesday after a carpenter working at the site alerted authorities.

According to the Central Regional Police Command, the carpenter reported finding the body hanging inside the unfinished structure when he arrived at the premises in the late afternoon.

A team of police officers dispatched to the scene confirmed the discovery and conducted a search of the area. Investigators recovered a black backpack containing a 2026 Geography Paper One mock examination paper bearing Emmanuel Arthur’s name, as well as a mobile phone and other personal effects.

School authorities were contacted and subsequently confirmed the deceased as a Form Three student of Mfantsipim School.

A pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital later examined the body and confirmed that it had significantly decomposed. Environmental health officials were called in to fumigate the area before the remains were removed.

The body was later released to the family, who proceeded with burial arrangements due to its condition.

Police have not disclosed the cause of death and say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which the student died.

The incident has drawn attention across Cape Coast and within the Mfantsipim community, with many awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
