The Central Regional Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that parts of the body of deceased University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, were missing when she was found.

According to the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Ettie, the body of the Level 200 student was recovered intact, contrary to widespread speculation on social media.

Speaking in an interview on Noon Target with Kenneth Kwabena Amenyeke on Monday June 15, 2026, Mr. Ettie stressed that preliminary investigations had not revealed any signs of mutilation.

“Let me stress on this part, no body parts have been missing, have been cut off. The body as we found it was intact,” he stated.

The police spokesperson said the Ghana Police Service has intensified investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, with additional investigators deployed by the Inspector-General of Police to support officers in the Central Region.

Mr. Ettie disclosed that while investigations are ongoing, initial findings suggest the student may have died before ending up in the water.

“From our initial investigation, we sort of suspect that the girl may have died before she drowned. That is another avenue we are going to explore to come to the logical conclusion of this case,” he said.

He added that investigators are examining the possibility that the death may have been staged to appear as a drowning incident.

The deceased was reported missing on June 12 before her body was later discovered and identified by family members at the mortuary of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Mr. Ettie appealed to members of the public with credible information to assist investigators.

“We ask the public, if anybody has any information that could help unravel the situation, we will be grateful,” he said.

Police say investigations remain active as authorities work to establish the exact cause and circumstances of Innocentia Avinu’s death.
