A 42-year-old woman has died following a road traffic accident involving a Hyundai Mighty truck at the Civic Centre traffic light in Ho in the Volta Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), personnel from the Volta Regional Command responded to the crash on June 13, 2026, alongside other emergency responders.
Firefighters rescued two victims trapped in the accident, a 35-year-old man and the 42-year-old woman and transported them to the Ho Teaching Hospital for treatment. The woman, however, later succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical care.
The GNFS said the accident caused significant damage to the front section of the truck and also partially damaged two nearby boutiques.
Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure may have been the cause of the crash, although authorities are continuing their investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the accident, the Fire Service urged motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles, particularly braking systems, to reduce the risk of similar tragedies on the country’s roads.
Road crashes linked to mechanical faults remain a major concern in Ghana, with safety experts frequently stressing the importance of routine vehicle inspections and adherence to road safety regulations.
The incident was reported by the Public Relations Office of the GNFS Volta Region.
