Kwame Agbodza, the government’s minister for roads and highways, has declared that the $29.5 million owed to contractors involved in the Suame Interchange Project has been fully paid.

During an inspection visit of the project’s ongoing construction, the minister revealed this information and reassured the Asanteman people that the government is still dedicated to finishing the significant road infrastructure project.

Mr Agbodza also disclosed that the government has allocated an extra GH¢3 billion to expedite the project’s advancement and enhance the quality of the roads.

He claims that the extra money will also help build the Suame bypass route, which will reduce local traffic.

“We are not taking a cedi out of the Suame Interchange project. We are rather adding GH¢3 billion to enhance the impact of this project and the bypass,” he stated.

Mr Agbodza emphasised that the administration of John Dramani Mahama is committed to completing ongoing projects rather than abandoning them.

He revealed that the president recently directed the finance minister to clear over GH¢12 billion in arrears owed to contractors, most of which relate to projects initiated before the current administration took office.

The minister added that the contractor has assured the government that a section of the project will be completed by the end of the year—an update he described as positive news for residents.

He reiterated that the government is determined to deliver the project on schedule, urging the people of Asanteman to remain confident in its commitment.
