The Ghana Health Service has set up a committee to investigate a maternal death reported at the Mother and Child Hospital Kasoa.
The committee comprises representatives from the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Trauma and Specialist Hospital Winneba, the Central Regional Health Directorate, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Attorney-General’s Department.
The investigation follows the death of 27-year-old Abigail Opoku Antwi, who reportedly passed away after allegedly being denied a cesarean section at the facility.
Speaking to the media, Awutu Senya East Municipal Health Director, Stanley Yaidoo, assured the public that the probe would be conducted fairly and transparently.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini, who visited the bereaved family, stated that any health personnel found culpable would face legal consequences.
He noted that the investigation aims to identify any systemic failures within the facility and restore public confidence in healthcare delivery.
The MCE also appealed to the family of the deceased to cooperate fully with the committee as it works to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
