The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency has condemned the recent demolition exercise at the Kasoa market, which has left nearly 1,000 petty traders displaced.
According to the constituency executives, the exercise has caused significant hardship for affected traders, many of whom have lost their primary sources of livelihood.
The party is therefore calling on government to urgently provide adequate compensation to support the victims and enable them to rebuild their businesses.
The Awutu Senya East NPP Constituency Secretary made this known during a press conference, highlighting the scale of the impact on local traders.
Meanwhile, the constituency’s Campaign Coordinator, Kojo Anim, criticised the exercise, describing it as “total wickedness” for displacing vulnerable traders from their sheds.
Some party members have also appealed to the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East to engage directly with the affected traders to address their concerns.
They further described the actions of the Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, as troubling and insensitive, urging authorities to adopt more humane approaches in such exercises.
