The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has inaugurated a 15-member steering committee to drive the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, by the Chief Executive of the Authority, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, as part of efforts to strengthen capacity, innovation, and research within the industry.

According to the NPA, the proposed Centre of Excellence is envisioned as a strategic institutional platform to support competency-based training and applied research, enhancing efficiency and professionalism across the downstream petroleum value chain.
The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Chief Executive of the Authority, Dramani Bukari, and includes representatives from key departments within the NPA as well as major industry stakeholders.

These stakeholders include the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), CBOD, the Tanker Drivers Union, and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the NPA to build institutional capacity and promote industry-led standards in Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector, amid growing demand for skilled professionals and improved operational practices.
