Irene Naa Torshie Addo, former Member of Parliament for Tema West and ex-Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, says she is open to serving as running mate to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong if the New Patriotic Party deems her fit for the role.

Her comments come as speculation grows that she could be tapped for the vice-presidential slot after publicly backing Agyapong in the party’s 2026 presidential primary. Addo had previously thrown her support behind former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP’s last flagbearer contest.

The former MP dismissed reports that she has already held talks with Agyapong about joining his ticket. But she made clear she would accept the responsibility if party stakeholders and her constituency believe she is capable.

“Possible, I don’t know and we haven’t discussed that but if I am, what do you think? It’s also good to have women included,” Addo said. “If my people think I am capable, it is not just going to be about me, but my constituency, the NPP and other influential people.” She told Citinews.

She added: “If they think I am capable, because you never know your strength. If they think I am capable, then I think I am ready to serve the country and I will give up my life for the country.”
