The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has congratulated Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his victory in the party’s flagbearer election, describing the outcome as a sign of the party’s resilience and internal democracy.
In a statement issued by the NPP Ashanti Regional Secretariat, Mr Boasiako acknowledged that the party has gone through a difficult period following its defeat in the 2024 general elections. Still, he said the successful conduct of the flagbearer race demonstrates that the NPP remains united and capable of rebuilding.
“This has been a difficult period for our party, especially after the outcome of the 2024 general elections. But this process has shown that the NPP remains a strong, democratic and united political family, capable of reorganising and preparing for the future,” the statement said.
Mr Boasiako stressed that the party must now focus on rebuilding trust with the Ghanaian people, reconnecting with its grassroots base, and restoring public confidence ahead of the 2028 elections. According to him, this will require honesty, discipline, hard work, and unity across all levels of the party.
“The work ahead of us is clear. We must rebuild, reconnect with our base, and restore the confidence of the Ghanaian people. This will require honesty, hard work, discipline and, above all, unity,” he stated.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman urged party members to put the collective interest of the NPP above personal ambitions, warning against internal divisions and blame following the party’s electoral loss.
“Now is not the time for blame or internal divisions. Now is the time to close ranks and focus on winning again in 2028,” he noted.
Mr Boasiako called on party members nationwide to rally behind Dr Bawumia and contribute to strengthening the party’s organisational structures, particularly at the grassroots level. He reaffirmed his personal commitment to mobilising supporters and helping the party prepare for a return to government.
“We may have lost in 2024, but we have not lost our spirit, our values, or our belief in Ghana,” he added.
The statement ended with a call for unity and prayers for the party and the nation, reaffirming the NPP’s slogan, “Development in Freedom.”
