“Being members of the House of Chiefs, we would like to tell former Council Chairman, Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, that we are very proud of him and he should continue in his benevolent ways of uplifting the country. This is a very good example which inspires all of us as individuals, and I think that from the Western Region, we should consider honouring him for this particular project, which was done wholeheartedly,” Nana Nketsia said.
He further encouraged other well-meaning individuals to emulate Dr. Tobbin’s example by supporting initiatives that advance education and community development.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor-elect of TTU, Ing. A member of the University Sports and Recreation Committee, Mr. Michael Appiah, explained that the idea of building a modern stadium first emerged in 2018 but was realised through the intervention and support of Dr. Tobbin during his tenure as TTU Governing Council Chairman.
Providing an update on the project, the Quantity Surveyor, Mr. Kofi Ampoful, stated that the first phase, a mini stadium, commenced on 25th November 2022 and is expected to be handed over by the end of August 2025. The facility will feature a football pitch, a 1,500-seater stand, an athletics track, changing rooms, and shops to provide essential services to enhance the use of the stadium.
He added that plans are also underway for a second phase, which will include the construction of a tennis court, a basketball court, and a volleyball court.
