The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has made significant progress on its ongoing maintenance project, with 70% of the work completed. This brings the company closer to its target of resuming gas supply to Tema by March 2, 2025.
The maintenance involves a comprehensive offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise known as pigging. Initially scheduled for completion by February 3, 2025, the project is now expected to wrap up on March 2.
Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, WAPCo’s Operations and Maintenance Superintendent for Western Operations, expressed confidence that the company would meet the deadline.
“We’re on track and making good progress,” Ayeh said during a briefing at the company’s Tema site. “Barring any unforeseen issues, we anticipate completing the work before March 2.”
Once finished, the pipeline will resume its gas supply to Tema and Lomé. However, additional work remains on the Cotonou lateral. Mr. Ayeh noted that inspections in Cotonou will require further pigging, with gas supply there expected to resume around March 5 or 7.
