The Volta Regional Students’ Association, Ghana (VORSAG) has received a significant boost as Akwasi Opong-Fosu accepted an invitation to serve as Patron of the association.

The decision follows a courtesy call by the association’s National Executive Committee (NEC), who engaged him to introduce their newly constituted leadership and outline plans to reposition VORSAG as a platform for student unity and regional development.

Relaunch Plans Underway

The NEC revealed that preparations are underway for the official relaunch of VORSAG National, scheduled for August 2026 at Ho Technical University.

According to the leadership, the relaunch forms part of a broader vision to:

Promote responsible student leadership

Strengthen regional identity and heritage

Enhance national cohesion among students

Call for Patriotism and Value-Based Leadership

During the engagement, Hon. Opong-Fosu expressed concern about what he described as a decline in patriotism and nationalism within Ghana’s public and civic life.

“True leadership must be anchored in conviction, since conviction inspires courage, principled action, and a deeper sense of responsibility to society,” he stated.

He urged the student leaders to uphold values of integrity, service, and responsibility as they take on leadership roles.

Renewed Vision for VORSAG

The NEC also sought his mentorship and guidance as they embark on what they describe as a renewed journey to revitalize the association.

Historically, VORSAG has served as a unifying body for students from the Volta Region but has faced challenges in recent years. The new leadership aims to reposition it as:

A hub for student activism

A platform for leadership training

A driver of regional development initiatives

A Strategic Partnership for Future Leaders

Hon. Opong-Fosu commended the leadership for their vision and pledged his support toward the relaunch and long-term growth of the association.

His acceptance as Patron is seen as a bridge between experienced public service leadership and emerging student voices, providing both credibility and mentorship as VORSAG works to re-establish its relevance.

With the August relaunch expected to attract students, alumni, and key stakeholders, the association is positioning itself to play a stronger role in shaping the next generation of leaders in Ghana.
