The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has announced the immediate reopening of Ussher Fort and James Fort to the public following a period of temporary closure.

The directive was contained in a press release issued on December 23, which explained that the decision follows extensive reviews and consultations with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

According to the Ministry, the consultations have resulted in the implementation of adequate safety measures that allow for controlled public access to the historic sites without compromising visitor safety or disrupting ongoing restoration works.

“Subsequent to the temporary closure, reviews and consultations with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) have resulted in adequate safety measures to allow controlled public access to the sites without compromising visitor safety or the integrity of ongoing restoration activities,” the statement said.

The Ministry clarified that the earlier closure was purely in the interest of public safety and expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and understanding during the period.

It further directed that all visitors, tour guides, and tour operators must strictly comply with the approved safety measures, warning that unauthorized access to restricted areas remains prohibited.
