The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives, Ghana, has raised concern over the disappearance of validated salary arrears from government payroll records, calling for urgent investigations.

In a statement dated February 26, 2026, the group said members had consistently seen their arrears validated on the payroll system despite not receiving payment. However, during the February validation, the arrears “suddenly and completely disappeared” from payment vouchers.

The coalition said checks by payroll validators and human resource officers confirmed the arrears were cleared without any corresponding payments.

It also criticised the response of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, which reportedly denied the claims.

“This denial is shocking and unacceptable. Who authorised the removal of our legitimately earned arrears?” the statement questioned.

Describing the situation as unjust, the group urged government to investigate the matter, restore the arrears and ensure prompt payment.
