Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, has praised TradeMark Africa (TMA) for its role in supporting women-led businesses through targeted training aimed at improving access to export markets.

According to her, the initiative has enhanced the capacity of women entrepreneurs to meet international trade standards, identify export opportunities, and competitively position their products globally.

Madam Ofosu Agyare made the statement when she addressed the Government’s Accountability Series at the Presidency in Accra on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. She emphasised that building the capacity of women-owned enterprises is a key focus of government policy, given their importance to job creation and overall economic development.

According to her, the TMA- and World Bank–supported training has reached over 2,000 women-led enterprises, youth and persons with disabilities in border towns across the country.

“We’ve made a conscious effort to empower women to take advantage of the export market, which is of course a bigger and better market,” she said.

The Minister noted that the TMA- and World Bank-supported training programs have reached over 2,000 women-led enterprises, youth, and persons with disabilities in border towns across Ghana. In total, more than 2,800 businesses across Elubo, Takoradi, Tamale, Cape Coast, Aflao, Akanu-Noepe, and Sunyani have been sensitized and equipped to engage in cross-border trade.

Madam Ofosu Agyare emphasized that building the capacity of women-owned enterprises remains a central government priority, citing their critical role in job creation and national economic development.

“Supporting women entrepreneurs is not just a policy; it is an investment in the growth of our economy,” she added.

The Ministry of Trade continues to collaborate with partners such as TMA and the World Bank to expand training and market access initiatives for women, youth, and persons with disabilities across Ghana.
