In a Zoom interview on Adom TV, Mali national team coach Tom Saintfiet hinted at future interest in leading Ghana’s senior national team once his current contract expires.
“Otto Addo has a contract until 2027. My contract ends in August 2026,” Saintfiet stated. “As soon as I’m free and my contract with Mali has expired, I’ll be interested. For now, I’m focused on Mali.”
Saintfiet’s comments come amid growing speculation about long-term succession planning for the Black Stars. While he emphasized his commitment to Mali, the Belgian tactician left the door open for a potential move to Ghana, sparking conversation among fans and pundits alike.
Otto Addo was reappointed by the Ghana Football Association in March 2024, marking his second tenure as head coach of the Black Stars. His counterpart, Tom Saintfiet who famously guided Gambia to their first-ever quarterfinal appearance at AFCON 2021 took charge of Mali in August 2024 and remains unbeaten in nine competitive matches, including six victories.
The two tacticians faced off on Matchday Eight of the World Cup qualifiers on Monday, September 8. Ghana emerged victorious with a crucial 1–0 win over Mali, thanks to Alexander Djiku’s decisive strike in the 49th minute giving Ghana a three-point gap in the group.
Ghana will take on the Central African Republic on October 6, 2025, before hosting Comoros four days later. With World Cup qualification within reach, the Black Stars must sustain their momentum and deliver consistent performances in the remaining fixtures.
