The Department of Accounting at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has held discussions with a delegation from Tobinco Media Group aimed at exploring collaborative opportunities between academia and the media.

The engagement took place on 2 December 2025 at UGBS, where the Tobinco delegation—led by Mrs. Odelia Ntiamoah, Managing Director—was received by the Head of the Department of Accounting, Professor Godfred Matthew Yaw Owusu, and other faculty members. The delegation also included Nana Adwoa Annan, Deputy Managing Director of Bulletin TV, and Mr. Bright Nana Amfoh, News Editor.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Ntiamoah outlined Tobinco Media Group’s vision of building a mutually beneficial partnership with academic institutions. She noted that the media group is keen on integrating research-driven insights into its news and educational programming, particularly on Bulletin TV, to strengthen evidence-based reporting and informed public discourse.

She explained that engaging subject-matter experts—especially in economics, accounting, and business—would help improve the depth and accuracy of financial and economic analysis in the media, while also enhancing the visibility and impact of both institutions. As part of the initiative, Tobinco Media Group plans to share its 2026 programming calendar with UGBS faculty to better align academic expertise with media schedules.

Mrs. Ntiamoah further highlighted opportunities for lecturers to participate in televised discussions, co-create public forums, and contribute to content development. She also proposed a research-focused internship programme that would give students practical industry exposure, build professional competencies, and enhance employability. In addition, Tobinco Media Group expressed interest in receiving targeted training from UGBS to strengthen the analytical quality of its business and economic reporting.

Mr. Amfoh emphasised the importance of providing a credible platform for accounting and finance professionals to contribute to national economic conversations. He noted that closer collaboration with experts would help reduce misinformation and improve the quality of public financial commentary.

Responding to the proposal, Professor Owusu welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and aligned with the department’s mandate to contribute to national development. He reaffirmed the department’s readiness to support media engagements, citing its strong expertise in accounting and finance.

He also disclosed plans to establish a practical accounting laboratory to enhance experiential learning for students, while stressing the need for any partnership to respect academic independence and professional standards.

Discussions also explored potential collaboration in budget analysis, seminar series, and practitioner forums to address emerging economic and financial issues. Both parties agreed to establish direct communication channels to ensure effective coordination.

As part of the engagement, Tobinco Media Group indicated its intention to recruit accounting students for internships and research roles at Bulletin TV, as well as marketing students to support production and communications activities.
