In-depth investigations into the helicopter crash that killed eight people, including Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, in Adansi Akfrofoum, Ashanti Region, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, have been promised by the Ministry of Defence.
Today, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Mr. Brogya Genfi, the Deputy Minister of Defence, told some chiefs in Accra that the Ghana Armed Forces hierarchy has started looking into the incident and has asked for international cooperation to make sure the process is transparent.
“We also want to assure you that the Ghana Armed Forces has already begun investigations into the incident. We requested an international collaboration, and we have received a positive response in that regard.
We want to assure our chiefs that nothing will be covered, it will be transparent, and the Ghanaian public will know exactly what happened and the cause of this tragic accident,” the Minister stated.
Additionally, he urged the media to report on the incident with caution. Nii Odaifio Welentsi Ill, the president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, also urged practical measures to put an end to illicit mining in Ghana.
“Galamsey is what has caused their lives. If you cannot do anything about this, the police can, once and for all we stop this thing. This country should rise and stop galamsey,” he said.
A three-day national mourning period was declared by the government in the wake of the incident. This period included a memorial service on August 9, 2025, and a flower-laying ceremony on August 7.
The government has announced that the victims will have a state funeral at Accra’s Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, 2025.
