An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained by Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey during Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Como on Sunday has delivered him yet another serious blow.
After trying to control a ball, the 24-year-old pulled up in the 20th minute. His unsteady landing and rapid display of discomfort necessitated his replacement by Fortini.
On Monday, Fiorentina revealed that Lamptey’s left knee had an isolated ACL damage. Prof. Mariani has already done successful surgery on the former Brighton full-back.
“Given the complex clinical picture, a diagnostic arthroscopy was performed which confirmed the isolated laceration of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee. The reconstruction was successfully carried out, and the player will now begin his rehabilitation path,” according to a statement from the club.
Lamptey, who was starting for Fiorentina in Serie A for the first time, was severely hurt by the injury. He has only played in two games for the team thus far, logging a mere twenty-five minutes on the field.
Lamptey will likely miss the most of the 2025–2026 season due to an estimated six-month or longer absence.
In addition, the Black Stars lose one of their most adaptable defensive options, which hurts Ghana’s chances going into important international matches.
