The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has commended Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea for his exemplary officiating at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
In a press release issued following the conclusion of the tournament on January 18, 2026, SWAG praised Laryea for showing competence, professionalism, and integrity on the continental stage, noting that he made Ghana proud.
Laryea was the only Ghanaian match official selected for AFCON 2025, a reflection of his consistency and high standards in refereeing. His standout assignment was the high-profile semi-final clash between Nigeria and host nation Morocco, a match played under intense pressure and scrutiny, where he displayed remarkable authority and fairness.
SWAG emphasized that Laryea’s performance reinforces Ghana’s reputation for producing top-quality referees capable of performing at the highest level of African football.
The association also expressed hope that his achievement would inspire the next generation of Ghanaian referees, while urging football authorities to continue investing in referee development to maintain Ghana’s presence on major international stages.
