The tragic military helicopter crash on August 6 should motivate President John Dramani Mahama to step up efforts to combat illegal mining in Ghana, according to Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the former National Chairman of the NDC.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo stated during his appearance on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show that the victims lost their lives while performing their duties and that the best way to honour them is to carry on the fight they were waging.

“This should spur us on to come together and fight galamsey once and for all. The President should strengthen himself because God is with him in this fight,” he stated.

He highlighted the startling unemployment rates, praised Ghanaians for coming together in grief, and urged the government to step up efforts to find alternative jobs for the young.

Noting that the entire country is in mourning for the fallen soldiers, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo also suggested erecting a permanent monument in their honour.
