Motorists and travelers who rely on the ferry at Dambai to cross the Oti River are facing serious challenges after the vessel broke down.
The ferry, which connects Krachi East to Krachi Nchumuru, has been out of service since Wednesday, 12 March, 2025, forcing commuters to find alternative means to cross the river.
With no ferry in operation, motorized canoes have become the only option for crossing. However, these boats are now overloaded, increasing the risk of accidents. Many passengers travel without life jackets or any form of safety equipment.
Some commuters have expressed frustration over the situation, calling on authorities to intervene. “We have no choice but to use these canoes, even though we know the risks. The authorities must act quickly to fix the ferry,” a stranded commuter, Ama Gadri said.
Meanwhile, businesses that depend on the ferry for transportation are also affected. Drivers transporting goods are stuck, causing delays in deliveries to various parts of the region.
Despite these concerns, there has been no official communication on when the ferry will be repaired. Commuters are hoping for a quick solution before the situation worsens.
Information available to Bullet News indicates that this is not the first time the ferry has broken down. This is the third time within 3 months of 2025.
Attempts to get response from the Oti Regional Coordination Council (O.R.C.C) as at the time of filing this report was unsuccessful.
