Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams, has criticised Black Stars head coach Otto Addo’s record, questioning the decision to keep him in charge despite Ghana’s disastrous 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign.
The Black Stars failed to win a single game in their qualifying group, finishing bottom and missing out on the tournament in Morocco—a major setback for Ghanaian football.
In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made several changes to the team’s technical staff.
However, Otto Addo has remained as head coach, a move that Adams finds puzzling.
“The data is very poor—in fact, it’s terrible,” Mr Adams said in an interview recently, adding: “Looking at only the data, there is no way he [Otto Addo] should have stayed on.”
“The GFA took a decision to do away with those around him, but what was surprising was that the head coach was maintained. Maybe something informed that decision,” he noted.
“It may be financial, but an engagement with the GFA will certainly let us know what led to that decision,” Mr Adams told Metro TV.
The GFA’s decision to retain Addo is expected to remain a major talking point as Ghana looks to rebuild after their AFCON qualification failure.
