The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has declared that she will take all necessary steps to secure her seat in Parliament, insisting that she rightfully won the 2024 election.
Speaking at a vigil organised by NDC supporters on February 9, she rejected claims that she was backing down in the face of delays in declaring the results, saying her silence should not be mistaken for weakness.
“Being silent about some things doesn’t mean you are a coward,” she warned, adding: “If, as an elderly person, you have decided to fight, then I am ready to fight this battle as well.”
The vigil was held at the forecourt of the Kwashieman Chiefs Palace, where protesters dressed in black expressed frustration over the electoral process.
Ms Aubynn accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of working with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate results by fabricating pink sheets, and she rejected any plans to use electronic methods for collation.
“The NPP didn’t provide a single pink sheet for the collation. It will never happen. We are not looking for war but fairness, so do what is right,” she said.
The collation of results in the constituency has been fraught with controversy.
The process was suspended on January 17 after alleged acts of vandalism linked to the NDC at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office. Over 40 individuals reportedly stormed the collation centre, forcing officials out and damaging property.
Despite the disruptions, the EC has maintained that it will follow due process before declaring the results.
The outcome remains uncertain as both parties continue to contest the process.
