Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, the suspect accused of murdering Abuakwa North MP J.B. Danquah Adu, broke down in tears in court on Wednesday, expressing frustration over the prolonged legal process.

Asiedu, who faces a retrial after nine years of legal proceedings, complained that Ghana’s judicial system was unfair and insisted on his innocence. The court had to calm him before proceedings could commence.

Appearing before the Criminal Court Five division of the High Court, trial judge Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie noted that defence counsel Sophia Armstrong—who was holding brief for her senior—had previously indicated plans to file a bail application. However, the court had not yet received the application.

Defence counsel confirmed that they were yet to file the request for bail. Meanwhile, Ms Yvonne Yaache-Adomako, representing Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batse, stated that the prosecution was ready to begin the trial, pending the empanelment of jurors.

The court has adjourned the case to 25 February 2025.

On 4 December 2024, the High Court ordered a retrial after a seven-member jury delivered a split verdict of 4-3 on Asiedu regarding charges of robbery and murder.
