President John Mahama has appointed Seth Aklasi, President of the Ghana Insurers Association, as the acting Managing Director of Ghana Reinsurance Company PLC.

Mr Aklasi, who previously served as Managing Director of Donewell Insurance, will assume leadership following the departure of Monica Amissah, who held the role in an acting capacity after serving as Deputy Managing Director.

A formal handover ceremony is scheduled for the morning of February 18, 2025.

Mr Aklasi brings 25 years of experience in finance and insurance, with expertise in underwriting, risk management, reinsurance, product development, and corporate strategy.

He began his career at Enterprise Insurance Company Ghana Limited and later joined International Energy Insurance (IEI) Ghana Limited in 2008, where he rose to the position of Chief Operations Officer. He also briefly led Priority Insurance before becoming CEO of Donewell Insurance in 2015, where he spearheaded innovation and operational transformation.

Mr Aklasi has played a significant role in shaping Ghana’s insurance industry.

He has chaired the Accident Committee of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and is currently serving his second term as its President. Additionally, he has been a key figure in the Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Scheme, holding the position of Vice Chairman during his second term.

Mr Aklasi is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), UK, and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (FCIIG). He holds an MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from Bayes Business School, City, University of London, and a BA in Social Science from the University of Cape Coast.

Ghana Reinsurance PLC is the country’s largest and first reinsurance company and has expanded to become a major player in Africa’s reinsurance market.
