The Sekyere Central District Education Directorate in the Ashanti Region is grappling with a severe teacher shortage, with over 200 vacancies yet to be filled, according to District Education Director Mr. Kwame Addo.

Mr. Addo said the shortage is putting immense pressure on the few teachers currently in the system, as some schools are forced to merge classes due to limited staff.

“We are doing our best with the limited staff we have, but the numbers are overwhelming. Some schools have only one or two teachers handling multiple classes. This is not sustainable,” he lamented.

The situation, he explained, is negatively affecting teaching and learning outcomes, with parents and community leaders expressing growing concern over the district’s academic performance.

The Directorate is appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to urgently post new teachers to the area to ensure effective learning in basic schools.

The challenge came to light when Mr. Kwaku Adu, a philanthropist, donated four motorbikes to the Education Directorate and the Ghana Ambulance Service to support transportation logistics.

Presenting the items on his behalf, Mr. Richard Nketia explained that the donation forms part of Mr. Adu’s commitment to improving education and essential services in rural communities.
