Ghana’s Communications Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has announced significant increases in data bundle allocations across all telecom networks, effective July 1, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. George highlighted successful negotiations with network operators resulted in the changes:
The revised data allocations will affect AirtelTigo Ghana (AT Ghana), Telecel Ghana, and MTN Ghana, with each provider offering expanded data bundles. AirtelTigo Ghana and Telecel Ghana will implement a 10% increase across all data bundles, while MTN Ghana will introduce a 15% boost across its packages. In addition, the GH₵400 bundle for AirtelTigo will increase from 195GB to 236GB, Telecel will enhance its GH₵400 package from 90GB to 250GB, and MTN Ghana will reinstate its GH₵399 bundle, restoring 214GB (previously reduced to 92.88GB for GH₵350).
The Minister acknowledged that these increases would come at a cost to telecom operators but emphasized the importance of making data more accessible and affordable for Ghanaian.
“I am pleased that our engagements with industry leaders have led to positive outcomes for the Ghanaian people,” he said, expressing appreciation for telecom CEOs’ cooperation.
These adjustments are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital accessibility and improve value for money in Ghana’s telecom sector.
The Minister dismissed concerns about the integrity of data pricing by operators, emphasizing that the National Communication Authority’s billing verification system does not support such allegations.
