REFFA finished its preliminary screening for the first-ever 2025 edition, selecting 64 films from 121 submissions representing 21 countries.
The full nominee was announced on 13 November 2025, ahead of the festival and awards happening from 10–13 December in Accra.
The first round of screening took place from 20 to 28 October 2025, with films assessed across a wide range of genres. The Academy of Screeners evaluated submissions using key benchmarks—originality, narrative depth, technical excellence, creativity, and cultural relevance—under the supervision of an expert panel of scholars, critics, and industry practitioners from Ghana and other African countries.
Executive Director Selassie Ibrahim applauded all filmmakers who submitted entries, describing both the diversity and quality of films as outstanding.
Dr. Jim Awindor, Head of Jury, also praised the filmmakers, saying:
“We are thrilled by the growing participation and the remarkable storytelling talent emerging from Africa and the Diaspora. The 64 films selected represent some of the finest creative voices redefining African cinema today.”
Comprising filmmakers, scholars, and respected critics from across Africa, the Academy and Jury bring a wealth of expertise to the selection process. The inaugural edition has drawn an impressive mix of films showcasing the richness and variety of global cinema.
Designed to spotlight African creativity, the Regal Film Festival and Awards provides a unique space for artistic exchange, professional networking, and the recognition of exceptional talent. The awards night will be held at the Palms Convention Center in Accra on December 13, 2025.
