The nation’s presidential jet is still grounded in France because of major technical issues, such as severe corrosion in its fuel tanks and engine parts, according to Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

Public discussion about whether Ghana should purchase a new, roomier, and more dependable aircraft for the presidency has been rekindled by the jet’s extended absence.

Some contend that a modern replacement is required to prevent reliance on pricey rentals, while others have voiced concerns regarding timing and cost.

Dr. Omane Boamah called the Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy (registration number 9G-EXE) “sick” during his remarks at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, July 21.

He disclosed that the aircraft has been undergoing extensive repairs since March 11, 2025, and technicians have kept delaying its return date.

“It is sad to note that for some time now, whenever the president’s jet goes for either maintenance or overhaul, the date that is scheduled for it to return to Ghana keeps changing,”

“They have extended it to two months before, and later two and a half. In this case, as we speak, the aircraft is still not in.” He stated.

Even though a new return date has been promised, he said he would not make the announcement in public because of past missed deadlines.

“We are hoping that the date that has been given will see the Falcon in Ghana.”

Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized that the state of the jet does not warrant the frequent use of pricey luxury aircraft for presidential travel, even in light of the extent of the damage.

“The truth is that the presidential jet is heavily corroded… However, that does not in any way justify hiring or renting luxurious aircraft persistently for presidential use,” he mentioned.
