President John Dramani Mahama departed Accra on Sunday, August 17, 2025, for a high-profile diplomatic and business engagement spanning two pivotal economic hubs: Japan and Singapore. Announced by Presidential Spokesman Felix Kwakye Ofosu, this dual-nation mission is crafted to deepen Ghana’s bilateral relations, enhance trade and investment flows, and drive cooperation across key development priorities.
In Tokyo, President Mahama is scheduled to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he will deliver a plenary presentation under the theme “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment.” He will also take centre stage at the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, using it as an opportunity to spotlight the nation’s “Resetting Ghana” reform agenda and the array of incentives available to investors.
Beyond speeches, President Mahama is set to engage with top Japanese counterparts to explore collaboration in infrastructure development, technical cooperation, and financial partnerships. Among these meetings are discussions with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, as well as with senior officials from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and JETRO (Japan External Trade Organisation).
Following the Tokyo engagements, the President will proceed to Singapore for a three-day state visit. His itinerary includes a courtesy call with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, alongside participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. In addition, he will address a Ghana-Singapore Investment Forum, underscoring Ghana’s reform priorities and inviting private sector collaboration from within Singapore’s dynamic business landscape.
Overall, these visits reflect Ghana’s broader goal of expanding market access for its exports, attracting fresh streams of foreign direct investment, and advancing cooperation in technology, human capital development, finance, and infrastructure—core components of the Resetting Ghana developmental vision.
