Ghana is set to introduce a performance framework for its diplomatic corps, as President John Mahama prepares to launch a novel set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for ambassadors and diplomats on September 1.

The announcement was made by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at the ongoing Ghana Investment Forum in Tokyo, where the President is leading efforts to attract Japanese investment.

“On the first of September, the President will be launching the first of its kind a novel KPI, key performance indicators for all ambassadors and diplomats from the Republic of Ghana,” Mr. Ablakwa said.

According to the Minister, the new framework reflects the President’s directive to pursue economic diplomacy, with clear metrics to ensure that Ghana’s foreign missions contribute meaningfully to national development.

“The President wants our diplomacy to make an impact. Our diplomacy must lead to the improvement in the lives of the people. Diplomacy must promote investment.Diplomacy must create a safe haven for all of those who invest in our country, and that is what the Foreign Ministry has been charged to do,” he added.

Mr. Ablakwa also pledged Ghana’s full support and protection for Japanese investments, assuring stakeholders of a stable and rewarding business environment.

“We’re determined to ensure that your investment is not only protected but you also have good returns. And under President Mahama, you can be assured that your choice in Ghana will be the best decision you ever made because you cannot go wrong when you invest in Ghana.”

The summit marks a significant step in strengthening Ghana–Japan relations, with both countries exploring new avenues for trade, agriculture, infrastructure, and technological collaboration.
