President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has officially opened the National Agribusiness Dialogue in Accra, calling for collective efforts to transform Ghana’s agriculture sector into a globally competitive and job-creating industry.

Speaking at the event, President Mahama expressed satisfaction that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is leading the development of a national agribusiness policy. He said the policy would provide a comprehensive framework to guide investments, improve value chains, and build resilience in the sector.

“The policy will not just focus on value addition, but also on high-quality raw material production, processing standards, export competitiveness, and supply chain resilience,” he said.

President Mahama urged all stakeholders to take the dialogue seriously by offering inclusive ideas, building consensus, and identifying policy challenges. More importantly, he emphasized the need for shared ownership of the way forward.

“Agribusiness is where tradition meets innovation — where farming becomes industry and local potential meets global markets,” he said.

He called for unity in moving from dialogue to implementation, stressing that agribusiness has the power to reset Ghana’s economy, create decent jobs, and ensure sustainable growth.
The former President closed his remarks by declaring the National Agribusiness Dialogue officially open and expressing hope that significant progress would be achieved by next year.
