President John Dramani Mahama has nominated His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.

The nomination, made in line with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution, has been forwarded to the Council of State for consideration.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, who has been serving as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, brings decades of judicial experience to the role. He has served at various levels of the judiciary, including the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and most recently, the Supreme Court.

Throughout his career, he has been widely recognized for his diligence, impartiality, and contributions to the development of Ghana’s jurisprudence. His work has earned him the respect of colleagues in the legal profession and beyond.

Spokesperson for the Presidency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, described Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as “eminently qualified for the high office of Chief Justice,” citing his long service, integrity, and commitment to justice.

If approved by the Council of State, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will formally assume the role of Chief Justice, succeeding in a permanent capacity after months of acting service.
