The Ghana Police Service in the Oti Region has retrieved suspected cannabis valued at over GHS 1.4 million from an impounded truck.

In a press release by the service on February 26,2026, the vehicle, intercepted at the Bonakye checkpoint on December 29, 2025, was suspected to be carrying illegal goods. Police said, “the driver and one other occupant fled, abandoning the vehicle with the ignition key.”

The truck was later opened at Nkwanta on February 24, 2026, following an order by the Jasikan Circuit Court.

Officers discovered “three hundred and twenty (320) cartons of bottled water” concealing “ninety-one (91) bales of suspected cannabis,” totalling 7,173 slabs.

“The exhibits have been retained as investigations proceed,” the statement said.

The Police assured the public of their commitment to fighting drug trafficking and urged citizens to volunteer information to aid investigations.
