The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has opened an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), with former NPA CEO Mustapha Abdul-Hamid among those targeted.
At a press conference on February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng confirmed that the investigation is focused on potential corruption linked to the misappropriation of funds from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF).
This fund is crucial for stabilising fuel prices across the country.
Mr. Agyebeng revealed that the investigation is primarily directed at four individuals: Jacob Amoah, the Coordinator of the UPPF; NPA staff members Wendy Ashong Newman and Freda Tandoh, along with Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, who served as NPA’s Chief Executive from 2021 until early 2024.
“The OSP has commenced investigations into suspected corruption related to the alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund at the National Petroleum Authority,” Mr Agyebeng stated.
Under Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s leadership, the NPA was responsible for regulating fuel pricing, maintaining fuel quality standards, and overseeing the UPPF.
