Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses following allegations that they refused emergency treatment to a critically injured road accident victim who later died after being turned away from three hospitals.
The hospital announced the decision in a statement Monday, February 23, 2026, citing public outrage over reports that the patient, 29-year-old engineer Charles Amissah, was denied admission despite his condition. Amissah sustained severe injuries in a hit-and-run crash at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6 and was stabilized by emergency medical services before being transferred.
According to reports, he was unable to secure admission at the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu due to a lack of available beds. While at Korle Bu, he went into cardiac arrest. Medical staff attempted resuscitation, but he was later pronounced dead.

Hospital authorities said the interdicted staff have been temporarily relieved of duty pending a full inquiry into whether emergency care protocols were breached. A committee has been established to investigate the incident, and all personnel linked to the case have been directed to cooperate.
Korle Bu pledged accountability and promised to update the public once the investigation concludes. The case has sparked widespread debate about Ghana’s emergency care system and hospital capacity challenges.
