Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Caucus attended an orientation workshop hosted by the Ghanaian Parliament in partnership with Transparency International (TI) Ghana.

Open governance and Beneficial Ownership Transparency (BOT) were the main topics of discussion during the session.

Ghana’s 5th OGP National Action Plan (2023–2027) was highlighted in the workshop, which provided a thorough overview of the OGP initiative’s national and international context. In addition, MPs received an update on the current status of BOT in Ghana, with particular attention to the crucial role that Parliament plays in promoting its implementation.

Ghana has remained dedicated to enhancing accountability and transparency throughout governance structures since joining the OGP in 2011.

The nation’s renewed emphasis on implementing the BOT, a mechanism intended to combat illicit financial flows, corruption, and tax evasion, within the framework of its second National Action Plan, was a significant highlight of the workshop.

This involves initiatives to improve open contracting procedures. Parliament’s larger plan to advance inclusive policymaking, bolster democratic governance, and produce quantifiable results of public interest includes the orientation.

After the workshop, participants were more determined than ever to support the principles of open government.

Members of the OGP Caucus further strengthened Ghana’s position as a leader in transparency reforms by reaffirming their dedication to ensuring efficient parliamentary oversight in the execution of the National Action Plan.
