Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman has underscored the need for greater dignity, inclusion, and support for persons with different abilities, urging that they be allowed to live fulfilling lives without undue pressures.

Addressing the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the International Day of Older Persons, she stressed that society must extend compassion and empathy not only to those with disabilities but also to older persons and people living with illness.

“True empowerment lies in treating every individual with dignity and ensuring the right support systems are in place for them to thrive,” she said. Prof. Opoku Agyeman emphasized that persons with different abilities should not be defined by limitations, but should be given opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society and enjoy the same respect as others.

She further encouraged communities and institutions to adopt a culture of hope and encouragement, noting that positivity and support can improve the quality of life for such individuals.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, announced that government will construct 16 shelters nationwide to provide care for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, survivors of abuse, and victims of human trafficking.
