One individual is in police custody following his arrest by the police during the re-run of the Ashanti Regional Council of State election on Monday, 17 February 2025.
The suspect is a supporter of one of the candidates, Mr Yaw Obimpeh, who served as a regional chairman for the National Democratic Congress.
He allegedly disregarded police orders for onlookers to remain at a designated place behind the barricades.
The election is being re-run after it was disrupted by thugs last week.
The regional police commander was reassigned as a result of the mishap.
Monday’s election was held amid tight security with scores of police officers, equipped with crowd control tools.
