The New Patriotic Party on Saturday paid tribute to highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, describing him as both a national icon and a loyal friend of the party.

Speaking to reporters at the funeral, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye highlighted Lumba’s contributions, including composing and performing a campaign song for former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“He was an icon. He was a legend. For us, we have lost a huge friend. He was a friend to the New Patriotic Party,” Boakye said.

The final funeral rites were held at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi after weeks of legal disputes over his burial. Thousands of fans gathered at Heroes Park, many arriving early to honor the musician whose songs have become staples of Ghanaian culture. The atmosphere mixed mourning with celebration, as devotees sang and danced to his hits.

The burial followed a ruling by the Accra High Court that cleared the way for the ceremony. Applicants in the family dispute had failed to raise the 2 million cedis required to sustain an injunction blocking release of the body. With the payment unmet, Transitions Funeral Home was directed to proceed with arrangements.

The court’s decision ended months of uncertainty that had delayed the burial and gripped the nation since Lumba’s death. Lawyers for the respondents argued further delays would be unfair to the family, fans and children of the late artist.

Preparations intensified after the ruling, culminating in Saturday’s ceremony, which closed a long-running dispute over the musician’s last rites.

Widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians, Daddy Lumba leaves behind a rich legacy that continues to resonate across generations. His burial provided closure for fans and family alike, as the nation bid farewell to a cultural icon.
