The Acting Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., recently toured key fuel facilities across Ghana to assess their operations, identify challenges, and determine the support needed from the regulator.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Executive Dr. Sheila Addo and senior NPA staff, Mr. Tameklo’s tour included stops at Ghana Petroleum Mooring Systems Limited (GPMS), Ghana Bunkering Services Limited, Sentuo Oil Refinery, and the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
At GPMS, the team observed the offshore operations, where fuel vessels are berthed and fuel is pumped through pipelines to shore-based terminals. The delegation also visited Ghana Bunkering Services to learn about the process of discharging fuel into tankers for distribution to oil marketing companies.
Mr. Tameklo’s visit to TOR highlighted a crucial industry issue. He urged new management to prioritize resuming the refinery’s operations to reduce reliance on imported refined fuel, which, in turn, would help alleviate pressure on the Ghanaian cedi.
Dr. Yusif Sulemana, TOR’s Acting Managing Director, affirmed his commitment to reviving the refinery’s core function of processing crude oil.
Further discussions at Sentuo Oil Refinery focused on the company’s expansion plans.
He also emphasized the need for the refinery to hire more local talent, particularly from Ghana’s petrochemical engineering sector, to reduce costs and facilitate technology transfer.
