A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Lawyer Emmanuel Kojo Mensah, has launched a scathing critique of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the official opening of nominations for the party’s presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie Show, hosted by Bernard Lav, Lawyer Kojo Mensah questioned the integrity of the nomination process, particularly the financial thresholds set for aspiring presidential candidates.
The NPP has pegged nomination forms at GH₵100,000, with a final filing fee of GH₵500,000 — figures that have already stirred debate within political circles.
He argued that the NPP’s fee structure was not merely a logistical requirement but a deliberate tactic to filter out certain contenders.
“This is not just about raising money. It’s about who can afford to stay in the race. To me, this process is not to separate the boys from the men, but rather to project people who got money from unknown sources over genuine party members,”- he said.
Lawyer Kojo Mensah also raised concerns about the source of funding for some aspirants, warning of the possibility of infiltration by illicit financiers.
“What if they are being financed by drug dealers? Are they trying to sell the party to the highest bidder?” he asked rhetorically, citing internal NDC research which he claims shows “power is vested in the hands of a few” because of such financing models.
The Former NDC PC aspirant for Trobu, said that Ghanaians are growing increasingly discerning and will not be swayed by the NPP’s internal theatrics or “money games.”
Amidst the criticism, Mensah used the opportunity to tout what he described as the NDC’s impressive economic performance under Finance Minister Ato Forson and Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama.
He claimed the government’s prudent policies have led to a reduction in national debt, a stabilized cedi trading around GH₵10 to the dollar, and fuel prices falling to about GH₵11 per liter.
“This is a government that thinks about Ghanaians. We are bringing good infrastructure under the Big Push, with over 13 billion allocated to transform key sectors,” he noted.
“No one in the NPP can equate what Ato Forson and Governor Dr. Asiama are doing with the economy,” – Kojo Mensah asserted, praising the current economic management under the NDC-led administration.
Kojo Mensah is confident in the NDC’s electoral prospects, stating that the party is “ready and waiting” to defeat any candidate the NPP selects, pointing to what he described as “frustration in the opposition.”
“Ghanaians are wiser than the NPP thinks. We will beat whoever they bring,” he declared.
While the NPP gears up for a hotly contested primary, the NDC seems poised to frame the race as one between inclusive governance and elitist politics.
