Effective Thursday, September 4, 2025, the curfew on Nkwanta township and the neighboring communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has been extended by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak-Mohammed.
Following recommendations by the Oti Regional Security Council and via an Executive Instrument, the new curfew hours are 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. every day.
Chiefs, opinion leaders, young people, and locals were urged by the minister in a statement to maintain composure and employ non-violent, nonviolent methods to resolve the region’s problems.
In the township, it is still strictly forbidden to own firearms, ammunition, or offensive weapons.
Security organizations have issued warnings that anyone caught violating the prohibition will face arrest and legal action.
