Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will disrupt parliamentary business until the issue surrounding the Ablekuma North constituency election is resolved.

The collation of results for the constituency has been stalled for over a month amid disagreements and tension. In one incident, property at the Electoral Commission’s regional office was damaged due to the dispute.

Addressing NPP supporters during a visit to the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ekua Afriyie, Annoh-Dompreh made it clear that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would face unrest in Parliament if they continued to contest the results.

“If the NDC, led by Mahama Ayariga, continues to deny that the NPP won the seat and distract the Electoral Commission’s process, they will never have peace in Parliament,” he stated, signaling an intent to escalate the situation.

Annoh-Dompreh also took aim at the Inspector General of Police, urging him to hold accountable those responsible for damaging property during the collation process. He warned that if no action is taken, NPP members in Parliament would “continue to demonstrate” their displeasure.

In a final show of frustration, Annoh-Dompreh issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Electoral Commission (EC), demanding the declaration of NPP’s Ekua Afriyie as the winner of the election. “We are giving the EC one week; they must come and declare our candidate as the winner of the Ablekuma North election,” he said.

Meanwhile, both Ekua Afriyie of the NPP and Ewurabena Aubyn of the NDC have put up billboards claiming victory in the disputed election, further fueling the tension surrounding the results.
