A group identifying itself as the Concerned Association of Grassroots of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a communiqué expressing dissatisfaction with what it describes as the neglect of grassroots members in government recruitment and employment opportunities.

In a statement addressed to John Dramani Mahama, the party’s national leadership, and members of the governing party in Parliament, the group said many grassroots supporters feel sidelined despite their contributions to the party’s victory in the 2024 Ghanaian general election.

The statement said branch executives, polling agents, and campaign volunteers played a key role in mobilising voters and supporting the party during the election campaign, often using personal resources to travel and organise in their communities.

Recruitment Concerns

The group identified the ongoing recruitment into the country’s security services as a major source of frustration among party supporters.

According to the communiqué, several applicants who served as polling agents and active party members in the 2020 and 2024 elections have reportedly been disqualified during recruitment processes without explanation. Others, the group claims, passed initial aptitude tests but later had their application status changed to “disqualified.”

Some applicants were also reportedly affected by technical issues during online aptitude tests, including temporary camera disconnections and proctoring challenges.

Key Concerns Raised

The association outlined several issues it believes need urgent attention:

Alleged unexplained disqualification of loyal party members during recruitment exercises

Lack of communication and feedback from Members of Parliament and constituency executives regarding submitted job applications

Perceived monopolisation of employment opportunities by a few individuals within the party structure

Limited access to government employment opportunities for grassroots members across the country

Demands and Proposals

To address these concerns, the group is calling for a review of disqualification cases, particularly those linked to technical issues during aptitude tests.

It is also advocating for the establishment of clear quotas for verified grassroots members in future recruitment exercises and improved communication from political leaders regarding job opportunities.

The association further proposed expanding employment opportunities for grassroots members in institutions such as the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, Forestry Commission of Ghana, Ghana Revenue Authority, and the National Disaster Management Organisation.

Appeal to Party Leadership

Despite the concerns raised, the group emphasised that its intention is not to attack the party but to call for fairness, transparency, and recognition of the sacrifices made by grassroots supporters.

The association warned that neglecting grassroots members could weaken mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections, urging party leadership to address the issues promptly.

The communiqué was signed on behalf of the association by National Convener Comrade Ato Kwamena Aikins, Deputy National Convener Comrade Isaiah Atsise, and General Secretary Comrade Felix Adeti.
