The National Service Authority says it will review the monthly allowance for personnel across the country. At a press conference on Tuesday, October 7, Acting Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh said the review has the attention of President John Mahama.
She noted that the President is interested in increasing the current GH¢715 allowance.
“It is something the President has expressed interest in,” she said. “But we all know the situation we find ourselves in. We do not want to press him too hard.”
Madam Seddoh said talks with the relevant ministries have been positive. The discussions are still ongoing. She added that the final decision will come after further consultations.
“I do not want to go ahead of the Minister,” she said. “But I can assure you that we have had good talks. We are hopeful there will be some increment.”
Many service personnel have welcomed the update. They believe a raise will help ease the rising cost of living and transportation.
The allowance was last adjusted to GH¢715 in 2023. Since then, personnel have continued to call for another increase to reflect current economic conditions.
