Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni has been elected as the Northern Region’s representative on the Council of State, securing a decisive victory with 26 out of 32 votes in the recently concluded election.

The former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu (1996-2004) triumphed over three other contenders to claim the position.

Mr Mumuni, who has served on various Select and Standing Committees in Parliament, also held the role of Minister for Foreign Affairs.

He told journalists that he is dedicated to effectively representing the region, citing his extensive experience in governance and public service as key assets.

“I have served in multiple capacities—from Assemblymember to presiding member. I have been a part of two cabinets under Presidents Rawlings and Mills and even ran as a vice-presidential candidate. The Northern Region has made the right choice,” he stated.

He further expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the Council of State, aiding the president in governance.

“I have no doubt that my experience and knowledge will enhance the work of the Council of State in advising the president. The reset agenda is truly on,” he added.

The other aspirants, Richard Andani Yakubu, Nyande Abdul Raqb, and Adam Hussein, secured 4, 2, and 0 votes, respectively.
