More than 175 tricycle riders have been arrested in Bibiani, in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, for flouting road safety regulations.

The arrests were made during a special operation carried out by the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD), targeting unregistered tricycles and operators without valid driver’s licenses.

ASP Emmanuel Osei, Divisional MTTD Commander for Bibiani, led the operation. According to officials, the crackdown is part of efforts to ensure compliance with national traffic laws and reduce road accidents in the municipality.

Some of the affected riders reportedly pleaded with officers at the time of arrest. However, ASP Osei insisted that all operators must regularize their documents before their tricycles would be released. He emphasized that these measures are not punitive but necessary to safeguard lives and maintain discipline on the roads.

In an interview, Mr. Anthony Fiifi Affum, Chairman of the Bibiani Tricycle Riders Association, backed the enforcement exercise. He commended the MTTD for its commitment to road safety and urged all riders to comply with licensing and registration requirements to avoid future inconveniences.

The operation has drawn attention across the municipality, with many residents welcoming the move as a step toward restoring order and accountability in local transportation.
