The Parliamentary Minority has declared that it will file a petition with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on President John Mahama’s alleged conflicts of interest.
The Minority claims that the President’s ongoing usage of his brother Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet poses constitutional issues and erodes public trust in the president’s integrity.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, March 26, the Minority Spokesperson on Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, disclosed that the group is engaging civil society organisations and other stakeholders to submit a joint petition.
“The Minority is formally considering a joint petition with civil society organisations, professional bodies, and concerned citizens on both the private jet arrangements and the Damang mine process as two manifestations of the same constitutional breach,” he stated.
He further called for an immediate halt to the President’s use of a private jet owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, under current circumstances.
“On the private jet, the President must immediately cease using his brother’s aircraft for official travel, for as long as Ibrahim Mahama’s companies hold, seek, or are in negotiation for any state contract, concession, or mineral rights,” he said.
The Minority also demanded full disclosure of all official travel undertaken using the aircraft since January 2025.
“The presidency must publish a full accounting of all travel on Ibrahim Mahama’s aircraft since January 2025, including dates, destinations, total cost borne by the state, and the estimated market value of services provided without charge,” he added.
The planned petition is expected to trigger further scrutiny and public debate over governance, transparency, and potential conflicts of interest within the highest levels of government.
